What is MOZAGE
MOZAGE is a new repurposing art form conceived by French-American artist Richard Bompard in 2010. He coined the word "Mozage" because it combines the ancient arts of mosaic and collage.
As in traditional mosaic, tiny tiles are glued onto a hard surface such as wood panel or cardboard to create a previously planned or painted design. The bright, jewel-like colored tiles are cut from recycled packaging materials such as boxes of cookies, candies, power bars, etc., and serve as the basic medium.
When the mozage is finished the tiles are sealed with the application of an acrylic medium. Then a few layers of lacquer are applied to preserve the vivid colors against U.V. light.
