Artist Bio

Richard Bompard is a French-American artist who is the creator of a new and very personal art method that has its roots in both mosaic and collage.

Born in the south of France in 1959, Bompard spent the first half of his life steeped in the European tradition which is his birthright. Having now spent as many years in his adopted homeland of the U.S. as in France, he studied and mastered his own style of painting, but was searching for something original and different. His experiments resulted in his art form that is a combination of the ancient art of mosaic and the contemporary use of collage. He has dubbed his art form: MOZAGE.

Simple compositions are made into unique works of art by his painstaking application of tiny tiles of cardboard, culled from recycled packaging materials of everyday products. The bright jewel-like colors from discarded display boxes of cookies, candy bars and cereal serve as the basic medium - transforming this Renaissance art form into glossy contemporary masterpieces of personal commentary. Working alone, he nonetheless has become part of a trend toward repurposing paper materials in art works.
